National Secretary

Paul Erickson has been National Secretary of the Australian Labor Party since 2019. In this role Paul is Labor’s national campaign director, and is responsible for the administration of the ALP National Executive.

In 2022 Paul was campaign director on Labor’s successful federal election campaign, becoming only the fourth ALP National Secretary to lead a winning campaign from opposition.


From 2014 to 2019 Paul was an Assistant National Secretary of the ALP, and led Labor’s target seats unit on the 2016 and 2019 federal elections. He directed Labor’s campaigns in the Canning (2015), Batman (2018), Braddon (2018), Eden-Monaro (2020) and Aston (2023) by-elections.


Prior to joining the National Secretariat, Paul worked in policy and campaign roles at the ACTU and in state government in Victoria and New South Wales. He was an adviser to state Labor ministers Peter Batchelor, Richard Wynne, and Carmel Tebbutt.

Paul was born in Melbourne and grew up in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with honours and a Graduate Diploma in Economics from the University of Melbourne. He
lives in Canberra.
