Tony Burke is the Member for Watson, Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Minister for Cyber Security, Minister for the Arts and Leader of the House of Representatives.
Tony has been a member of the Labor frontbench both in Government and in Opposition since entering Federal Parliament in 2004.
Tony has been fighting for a better deal to help Australians with the cost-of-living pressures. He led the fight for wage rises, putting an end to a decade of low wages - a deliberate design feature under the Liberals and Nationals.
People in the area deserve cheaper and more accessible health care. Tony is delivering through cheaper medicines, new Urgent Care Clinics in Bankstown and Belmore, more bulk billing, a new $1.3 billion hospital in Bankstown and $350 million in upgrades to the Canterbury hospital.
Tony has been advocating for his local area to receive its fair share of government funding.
Since 2022, Tony has secured over $30 million to better improve local amenities. This includes funding for local schools, parks and infrastructure projects.
Tony has been a leading voice in the Parliament, opposing all forms of hate speech and bigotry. He believes that Australians all live together in one strong community built on trust, respect and social cohesion.
