The Albanese Government is taking action on housing after a decade of inaction by the Liberals.
The best way we can do this is by boosting housing supply and building more affordable homes.
That’s why we set a new target with states and territories to build 1.2 million new well-located homes over five years and made the biggest investment in social and affordable housing in a decade through the Housing Australia Future Fund.
We’ve also sought a better deal for renters, making the largest increase to rent assistance in more than 30 years, offering new incentives to boost the supply of rental housing and made progress towards a nationally consistent policy to require genuine reasonable grounds for eviction.
If our Help to Buy shared equity scheme passes parliament it will help tens of thousands of Australians into home ownership.
There’s still more to do, but we’re just getting started.
