Member for Reid

Sally is the daughter of hardworking Chinese parents who fled Laos after the Vietnam war, and she believes passionately in the freedom and opportunities that allowed her family to prosper in Australia.

With her husband Rui, she lives in Homebush, where they are raising their young son, Max.

As a former doctoral researcher at the University of Sydney Business School focusing on the finance industry, Sally knows that with hard work and a good education, everyone can build the future they want for their family.

Before commencing her PhD, Sally worked for over a decade in the international education and international development sectors.

Before being elected as the Federal Labor Member for Reid in 2022, Sally was a communications adviser at the University of Sydney, where she promoted its teaching, research and students around the world. She has served on the Steering Committee of the Chinese Australian Forum since 2019.

The inner-Sydney electorate of Reid is one of the most diverse in the country, a busy, high-achieving community that boasts many young families and small businesses, and includes Australians with Chinese, Indian, Korean, Sri Lankan, Italian, Greek and Middle Eastern heritage and many faith communities.

As Member for Reid, Sally wants to invest in schools and education, back in small businesses, improve healthcare and local infrastructure, and see the next generation benefit from the well-paid, high-skill jobs that will come from building a clean-energy future.
