Overview
Reporting to the Assistant National Secretary and the Director of Operations, this National Organiser position takes operational responsibility for the planning, coordination, and effective implementation of the Party’s Reconciliation Action Plan, providing support to the National Indigenous Labor Network, a key role in the preparation of the ALP National Conference, and research assistance to senior Party officials.
Job description
Federal Election Campaign
A key role in coordinating the functions and relationships between the Target Seats Unit, Caucus Support Unit and the State and Territory ALP branches in the lead up to and during the Federal Election under the direction of the Assistant National Secretary/Director Target Seats.
Reconciliation Action Plan
Facilitate the implementation and delivery of the Reconciliation Action Plan across the party. Build and manage internal stakeholder groups and give advice on First Nations engagement across the party.
Party Units
Provide support and research assistance to the National Indigenous Labor Network.
National Conference
Key role in the preparation of the ALP National Conference including support for the National Policy Forum process and coordination and delivery of the highly successful National Conference Fringe Program.

- Capacity to exercise judgement, discretion and initiative within a politically sensitive environment.
- Capacity to work to tight deadlines and without close supervision.
Experience and qualifications
- Completion of a Bachelor degree or have substantially completed such a degree an advantage.
- Workplace experience in organising and operationalizing Reconciliation Action Plans an advantage.
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identity is considered an occupational requirement of this role under section 42 of the Discrimination Act 1991 (ACT). As such, a Confirmation of Aboriginality may be requested.
About the Role
This is a full-time, permanent appointment based at the National Secretariat in Canberra, however options to be based elsewhere will be considered for the right applicant. Relocation assistance may be available to assist with interstate relocation to Canberra.
The position will be filled at Level 1 of the Projects/Operational classification ($85,000 – $115,000 + 12% superannuation) as set out in the ALP National Secretariat Terms and Conditions of Employment. Remuneration will be discussed with suitable applicants.
