The Albanese Labor Government has now helped more than 50,000 key workers
buy their first home through the 5% Deposit Scheme, according to new Housing
Australia data. This includes:

• 13,800 in New South Wales
• 15,700 in Victoria
• 11,100 in Queensland
• 5,000 in Western Australia
• 2,000 in South Australia
• 1,200 in the Australian Capital Territory
• 880 in Tasmania
• 420 in the Northern Territory

Teachers, nurses, childcare workers, carers, defence personnel, firefighters, police
officers, paramedics, ambulance officers, emergency service workers and social and
welfare professionals are among the Australians who have been supported into
home ownership sooner with a deposit of as little as five per cent - saving thousands
on lenders mortgage insurance.

These are the workers who care for our kids, look after us when we're sick, keep our
communities safe and answer the call when Australians need help most, and under
Labor, they’re getting supported into homeownership.

This milestone builds on the Albanese Labor Government's record of helping first
home buyers through:

• Expanding the 5% Deposit Scheme to help more than 260,000 Australians get
into their own home, saving thousands in expensive LMI costs and helping
people into homeownership, sooner.

• Tax reforms to capital gains tax and negative gearing to help level the playing
field for first home buyers and support an additional 75,000 homeowners into
home ownership.

• 100,000 Homes for First Home Buyers Plan, under which the Albanese
Government has struck agreements with South Australia, Western Australia,
Queensland, Tasmania and the ACT to unlock more than 100,000 new
homes, including nearly 40,000 homes reserved exclusively for first home
buyers - with thousands more to come.

• Rolling out the Help to Buy Scheme, our shared equity scheme which is
helping thousands of low and moderate income Australians achieve home
ownership.

Labor is the party of aspiration and the party of first home buyers, with a
comprehensive $47 billion Homes for Australia plan to build more homes and help
more Australians achieve home ownership, and we’ll keep on delivering on it.
