The Albanese Labor Government is working with the Cook Labor Government to build Western Australia’s future, investing $60 million to expand Perth’s Swan River ferry network.

If re-elected, federal Labor will invest $50 million to deliver two new terminals at Applecross and the University of Western Australia in partnership with the Cook Government as part of Stage One of the network.

The new stops will be built near the Canning Bridge bus interchange and the University of Western Australia, shortening travel times to and from the city, via Elizabeth Quay.

Today we can also announce, a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver $10 million to plan and design a future extension of the network including consideration of potential new stops in key riverside locations such as Maylands, Point Fraser, Burswood, Optus Stadium, Claisebrook, Belmont and Rivervale, in Stage Two.

Thousands of people live in these growing suburbs, and a new ferry system will connect key points including Optus Stadium, Crown Casino and the Matagarup Bridge.

A new route will expand Perth’s public transport options and better utilise the Swan River, a win for commuters, tourists and AFL fans who flock to Optus Stadium on game days.

Federal Labor’s funding for Stage One supports the commitment already made by the Cook Labor Government, which will help deliver the two new terminals, as well as five new electric ferries.

The Cook Labor Government recently released a tender for a local manufacturer to build the five new ferries, part of their plan to continue to diversify the WA economy, create quality jobs and make more things in Western Australia.

The Albanese and Cook Governments are working together to build Western Australia’s future, with major projects underway including METRONET, upgrades to the Tonkin Highway and the Outback Way.
