A new era for housing policy begins today with the commencement of Housing Australia, following the passage of the Albanese Government’s housing legislative package last month. 

Housing Australia will be responsible for delivering social and affordable rental homes under the Albanese Government’s $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund and funds committed under the National Housing Accord for new affordable rental housing.  

Together these commitments will deliver 40,000 new social and affordable rental homes. 

All current programs currently administered by the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation will be continued by Housing Australia. 

This includes the National Housing Infrastructure Facility (NHIF), which provides support in the form of concessional loans and grants. 

Last year the Albanese Government unlocked up to $575 million in the NHIF for social and affordable housing and another $1 billion will be added this year to build more homes.

Housing Australia will also be responsible for the recently expanded Home Guarantee Scheme, which supports eligible first homebuyers, regional Australians and single parents with dependants to purchase homes with smaller deposits.
