Victorian Minister for Housing, Building and Precincts Nick Staikos and Federal Special Envoy for Social Housing and Homelessness Josh Burns made the announcement today at the site of the new Ryco Precinct in Footscray – an old manufacturing complex which is being redeveloped into 507 new apartments, including 124 social dwellings for Victorians on the Victorian Housing Register.

Construction on all projects is expected to have commenced by July 2027 with all homes to be completed by mid-2029.

These homes are some of the 55,000 social and affordable homes being delivered by the Albanese Labor Government across the country, including 4,400 in Victoria with more to come in the next round of the HAFF.

Through the Big Housing Build and Social Housing Growth Fund, the Carroll Labor Government is delivering social and community homes like these right across Victoria, with more than 16,000 homes already underway, in planning or complete.

As at 1 October 2026.
