A Shorten Labor Government will invest in 1,200 new permanent, full-time Medicare and Centrelink staff around the country.
These new staff will be properly trained. They will help improve Medicare and Centrelink services and reduce payment processing and waiting times and will boost local economies.
The Liberals have cut thousands of permanent Medicare and Centrelink jobs – and outsourced staff. As a result, services have suffered. Call wait times have blown out, and pensioners are spending hours waiting at Centrelink, instead of enjoying their retirement.
Labor’s plan is good for:
· Medicare cardholders.
· Pensioners, carers, students and social security recipients.
· Families that access the Child Care Subsidy, Family Tax Benefit or Paid Parental Leave.
