Simon O'Brien, Labor’s candidate for Cook, is a bar manager, part time musician and father of three. Simon grew up in the Sutherland Shire and has been a wage earner, small business owner and TAFE teacher in hospitality.
Working in hospitality, Simon knows the importance of penalty rates to workers in this industry. If the Liberal Government can afford to cut taxes for the wealthy, then surely there is no need to tear apart the penalty rate system.
Simon values the importance of education and is motivated to bring fairness back to school funding and reversing cuts to TAFE. There is no justification for the Liberal Government’s funding cuts to hospitals and watering down the Gonski education reforms.
Simon is also seen around the Shire in his guises as a Trivia host, where raising money for local charities is the focus of the night, and as a singer and bass player in 80's cover band "The Vandelles".
With increased development, Simon understands the concerns of the Cook electorate and is committed to maintaining and upgrading infrastructure to support a growing population.
