Ross is a Bass local and lawyer.
He was born and educated in Launceston before attending University of Tasmania in Hobart, graduating in 1984 with a Bachelor of Laws. Ross became a partner in the firm which became Rae & Partners Lawyers in 1988 and has practiced law in Launceston since. Ross was President of the Law Society of Tasmania in 1994-5.
Ross was a founding Director of the Northern Tasmanian Regional Development Board and was a Board member of the Inveresk Railyards Management Authority. He is a past member of the Governing Council of the Tasmanian Health Organisation - North, which is charged with the delivery of health care to all of Northern Tasmania and operates the Launceston General Hospital, serving in that role from July 2012 until June 2015.
Ross has been a member of Rotary since 1990 and served as a District Legal Officer. He has also served on the Boards of a number of community organisations, and acted as an honorary legal adviser for many others.
Ross is married to Ann, with one son, Pete.
