Nancy Waites is an ACT Labor candidate for the Australian Senate.
Nancy grew up in Sydney, moved to Canberra in the mid 1990s to study at the Australian National University and has lived here ever since - for half her life.
Nancy has a diverse working experience that spans the public, private and non-profit sectors. She spent five years in the Commonwealth Public Service before joining the private sector as a management consultant and marketing manager.
Subsequent to this, Nancy took time out from the professional paid workforce to focus on her sport of women’s natural bodybuilding. She became a national champion and represented Australia in the world championships in New York. During this time, she ran her own small business as a personal trainer before returning to public life as policy advisor to Labor’s Parliamentary Secretary for Social Inclusion. Nancy then spent five years in the non-profit sector, heading up the Government Relations team of World Vision Australia.
An enthusiastic member of her community, Nancy established her local residents’ association and remains an active member of its leadership group; she is also on the board of the Alliance Française de Canberra.
