Mark is a proud long-term resident of Millicent, where he and his wife Lisa made their home together and raised their son. Mark has worked as a lawyer in a private practice, as a family and workplace mediator in the not-for-profit sector, and as a conciliation officer with the SA Workers Compensation Tribunal. He now runs his own local mediation business, Braes Mediation Solutions.
Having served as a Councillor and Mayor of Wattle Range Council, Mark has advocated and delivered for his community on regional development and natural resource management and has contributed to many State-wide boards and committees. He remains active in community affairs in Millicent and the Wattle Range region through memberships of local committees, charities and service clubs.
Mark is strongly committed to protecting our environment. He will advocate to preserve, protect and sustain the stunning natural environments and important ecosystems right across the large and diverse electorate of Barker. While the Morrison Liberal Government has sat on their hands and done nothing, Labor has developed a plan to boost renewable energy, bringing power prices down and reducing Australia’s emissions by 43% by 2030 – keeping us on track for net zero by 2050.
Mark understands that equitable access to medical, social and community services is a key driver of regional economic development, as well as critical to quality of life for the community. With severe shortages of GPs and other key services in regional areas, only an Albanese Labor Government will strengthen Medicare by changing the rules to allow regional and outer metro communities to recruit more doctors of their choosing. This will mean communities right across the Barker electorate can more easily access the healthcare services that they need and deserve.
