Jason Scanes, Labor’s candidate for Wide Bay, has always put the needs of others before his own. At age 18, Jason enlisted in the Regular Army and had multiple Operational deployments overseas, as well as domestic and Border Protection Operations. After rising through the ranks from Digger to Captain, Jason was awarded numerous commendations for his dedication and duty most notably the Army Commendation Medal from the United States Government for his outstanding service with Coalition Forces during combat in the War on Terror in Afghanistan.
Active within the community, Jason is the Patron for TS Maryborough Navy Cadets, awarded the best cadet unit in Australia and the Ambassador for the charity ‘Aussie Vets for PTSD’. Jason was selected as a Member of the Premier’s Queensland Advisory Committee for the Commemoration of the ANZACS. He has secured funding for several community projects and represented the Queensland Government numerous occasions. Jason held key positions and was instrumental in delivering Maryborough’s world-class ‘Gallipoli to Armistice Memorial’.
Jason is a dedicated family man. He retired from Defence five years ago, choosing to settle his young family in Maryborough. Jason and his wife Jackie are passionate about Wide Bay and want the best for their community. Jason will use his integrity and experience to speak out about issues that impact his community and make a real difference for the community.
