Anthony Byrne has been the Federal Member for Holt since 1999.
Anthony was born in Adelaide and spent his early childhood in the goldfields of Kalgoorlie. He has fond memories of his childhood in the outback, particularly time spent with his father who was a renowned geologist.
In November 2007, Anthony was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, where he served until September 2010.
Anthony was also the Parliamentary Secretary for Trade from February 2009 until September 2010.
Since the 2010 election, Anthony has been a member of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security. Anthony chaired the Committee from 2010 to 2013, and has been the Deputy Chair following the 2013, 2016 and 2019 Federal elections. Anthony has been instrumental in strengthening Australia’s National Security Laws to make Australia safer and combat terrorism and hostile foreign influence in Australia.
Anthony has two children who were raised in the local area.
