In 2004 Kate Ellis became the youngest woman ever elected to the Australian House of Representatives.
Following the Labor Party election victory in 2007 Kate was elevated to the Rudd Government ministry as the Minister for Youth and Sport. In 2009, she was appointed Minister for Early Childhood Education, Childcare and Youth while continuing as Minister for Sport.
In Government Kate has introduced significant reform in the re-established youth portfolio; forging new direction in national youth policy.
Kate is committed to providing a genuine voice for young people and recognises the important contribution young people play in the life of the country.
Kate has launched the Government's blueprint for the future of Australian sport - Australian sport: Emerging challenges, New directions and has announced an independent expert panel to examine better ways to run, promote and manage sport in Australia.
She is passionate about the power of sport to strengthen communities, tackle our obesity epidemic and define our national identity.
She’s an avid Adelaide Crows and Glenelg Tigers fan.
