Biography

Mark was born in Adelaide in 1954 and was educated at Sacred Heart College in South Australia. He received a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Adelaide in 1981. He also holds a Masters of Public Administration from Harvard University which was conferred in June 1994.

Mark became a full time union official in Western Australia in 1984 and was the secretary of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees' Association in WA before being elected to the Senate in 1996. He was also state secretary of the WA Branch of the National Union of Workers.

Mark was elected to the Shadow Ministry on 22 November 2001. Mark and his wife Fran have two children.
