Kevin Rudd is an economic conservative. Interest rates have gone up six times since Mr Howard said he would keep them at "record lows". He has misled working families and he has lost touch. Under the Hawke Labor Government interest rates hit 17 percent. Another scare campaign, this time on interest rates back in 1989 – not mentioning that rates hit 22 percent in 1982 when Mr Howard was treasurer. We've all learnt from the past. I'm an economic conservative, committed to budget surpluses and the independence of the Reserve Bank. Interest rates have gone up six times since the last election.
