Darren Cheeseman is a young father with a mortgage, who lives in Torquay on the Surf Coast.
Darren is passionate about securing economic opportunities and jobs for Western Victoria, supporting local communities, and is focused on education and training, tackling climate change and restoring fair work laws.
Darren brings local knowledge, energy, and a wealth of experience to representing the people of Corangamite. Growing up in a small town just north of the electorate, Darren understands rural and regional communities.
Darren attended the Mount Clear Technical High School, then studied for a Bachelor of Applied Science Geology at the University of Ballarat.
Darren has served as a Councillor for the City of Ballarat, and during that time he also worked for the former Association for the Blind, raising funds to improve services for the blind and vision impaired.
Since then Darren had the privilege to work for the Community and Public Sector Union, coordinating campaigns for members across regional and rural Victoria to improve wages, conditions and workplace rights.
Darren has put his experience and knowledge to good work since being elected and has attracted hundreds of millions of dollars of investment to the region, securing thousands of local jobs building an array of fantastic locals projects. These include an upgrade of both our public and private transport system, upgrades to local schools and new water, community and recreation initiatives.
Darren is married to Kirsty and has a young son, Isaac.
Darren is also a passionate supporter of the CATS in the AFL, the Torquay Tigers in the Bellarine League and South Barwon in the Geelong Football League.
Darren also loves his soccer, has put a priority on delivering sports facilities to local communities, including for netball, basketball and bowls, and is a general sports nut.
