Deborah is a Labor Senator for New South Wales. She is passionate about ensuring all Australians wherever they live and regardless of their circumstances, have access to safe, secure work underpinned by a great education and world class health system.
In the 47th Parliament, Deborah pursued scrutiny and accountability for the consulting, audit and financial services sectors, making it clear that investment in our people and national security through a strong public service is not only essential, but more efficient and cheaper than contracting out core services. Deborah has also championed reforms in the franchising sector and corporate insolvency practice where there is much important work yet to do.
Deborah first entered federal politics in 2010, when she was elected as the Member for Robertson on the Central Coast. She was chosen as a Senator for New South Wales in 2013, and was re-elected in 2016 and 2022.
Deborah sees the power of the Parliament to bring Labor values to life for all Australians. This, combined with her passion for social justice in bringing people together to create a more inclusive society, continues to drive her to represent people of goodwill especially in regional and rural Australia.
Born in Parramatta, and a graduate of St Patricks College, Campbelltown, Deborah is the first in her family to complete tertiary education. She taught high school and was then a lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Newcastle. She lives on the Central Coast with her husband, with her family nearby.
