The 2020 Summit has brought confidence and strength to Australians who are working towards improving our multi-faceted society. We have a government who cares, a government which is inclusive and a government which is open minded and flexible. This makes our Australian government paramount.
As an educator, the 2020 summit is such a treasured teaching resource which I can use to prove to students that they can really make a difference, even if they aren't accomplished politicians. The 2020 Summit was not only a perfect example of the Spirit of Australia to our youths but also to the entire world!
Perhaps in a sense, we have just become the brightest and most highly educated nation in the world! Well done Kevin!

Well done to all at the Summit and congratulations to Prime Minister Rudd and comrades for having the courage to have the summit in the first place. I thought it was a 'breath of fresh air'. Take no notice of the blubbering opposition; they have not accepted they are sitting on the opposition benches as yet. Quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of their bleating.Robert Dunn

Congratulations on the 2020 summit! We all hope the results will prove it to be a worthwhile exercise but, regardless of the outcome, it has to be looked upon as the most inovative and encouraging attempt in government in my time. It is great to see a 'functional government'.

Congratulations to all concerned with Summit 2020. Nelson's comments (sour grapes!) showed the difference between Labor and Opp. We care for the people...all they care for is the bottom dollar line. Well done, but now comes the hard work to make the ideas into realities. Carry on Kevin!

I also thought the 2020 was a great idea and I'm sure other countries will follow suit, if the are not already doing this type of public consultation. The event will need to be repeated each year though, because the World changes so rapidly. I can see that ideas expounded in 2008 will definitely need an annual refresh. And as well I hope to be invited to the next one.

I find it perverse that Julie Bishop and the remaining bourgeois legions of battle scarred Tories are criticising the 2020 summit. Perhaps this is a condition associated with 'born to rule' syndrome and delusions of grandeur.
The 2020 summit is 'democracy in action'. The majority of conservatives couldn't spell the word 'democracy', let alone give you the definition or its origin. In almost twelve years, the Howard government never engaged the community or allowed its participation in Government; it only ever engaged the corporate executives and their entities.

Very positive summit, and good to see that Australia has a direction and goals to achieve at long last. Well done Kevin Rudd. I watched most of it on TV, and it made me feel proud and hopeful that something can be achieved when we as a nation put our minds to it.
Mentioned in the summit was broadband. With that in mind, something really needs to be done with our major telco! My landline phone has been out for seven weeks. The company needs a good shake up and perhaps the Federal Government should examine every aspect of the service provided by them. The industry needs a good swift kick.

Good job. Needs to be done every year. I'm not a big fan on monarchies, especially these days but I really do not see the urgency or even need to become a republic. At times I think people who suggest we must become a republic do not have enough problems on their plate, or are selectively blind to the reality and the seriousness and gravity of the problems that DO exist in our society.

Great to see our new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd call for the best a brightest to Canberra for 2020. It will be not only a great ideas forum but a bonding of the nation to look to our future.
I also believe the best and brightest political people are those who work tirelessly every election to put in place their party and representatives to get the job done, such as was the case in November 2007. I ask therefore that our Labor Government seek the opinion of all the ALP Branches on the ideas from the Summit. It's a great time for the Branches and FEAs to be utilised in opinion for the future of Australia.

Why was animal welfare not represented in the summit ? Dr. Hugh Wirth should have been invited, or any number of people tuned in to the importance of animal welfare. Whilst we do not care for the creatures, all the other bright ideas will flounder. Cruelty against animals must stop. Please put some thought into that.

The summit is a great idea; it will make Australia one of the world's leading nations if it works well. My suggestion is about the nations water. Here in tropical Australia we have huge rainfalls each year. Our dams overflow and millions of litres of water is wasted. Water in this world is a commodity.
Create a water pipeline from Darwin to South Australia, delivering water to the desert and cities along the way. From Cairns to the Mouth of the Murray River. This will green the red centre of this huge land. Imagine an Australia never affected by drought ever again...what a vision.
